Brighter Together - Galvanising the Power of Collective Climate Action this Earth Day

News

Across Madagascar, millions of people live without access to electricity — let alone power that is reliable, clean, or affordable. In rural communities, this limits access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunity, while forcing reliance on costly, polluting energy sources.

At the same time, Madagascar is one of the countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The need for clean, sustainable, and accessible energy has never been more urgent.

‘Brighter Together’ is Solar United Madagascar’s Earth Day celebration and fundraiser, approaching climate action a little differently.

Working in partnership, Feedback Madagascar, SEED Madagascar, Money for Madagascar, SolarAid and Jiro-Ve have come together as the Solar United Madagascar consortium to combine their energy expertise, local knowledge, and work in partnership with communities.

One Earth Day donation supports the collective work of all five organisations - a collaborative effort to expand access to clean, reliable solar energy across rural Madagascar.

Your support will help bring safe, reliable electricity to communities that need it most, whether through clean lighting, solar-powered cookers providing daily school meals, or digital tools that power education.

Together, this will not only lay the foundations for clean, renewable energy, it will also:

  • Improve quality of life and economic opportunity
  • Reduce reliance on harmful, polluting fuels
  • Build climate resilience in vulnerable communities

And for one week only, from 22nd to 29th April, every donation will be doubled by our match funders, for every £1 you donate, we receive £2.

This Earth Day, join our collective climate efforts.

Help us reach our £100,000 target with a donation, because when we work together, we can achieve far more than any one organisation alone.

Bright Futures with Solar Lamps
Colette, a 10-year-old student at Ankarinomby Primary School, used to study by a smoky kerosene lamp until her school’s Light Library began renting solar lamps and power banks. The clean, reliable light now lets her and her sister study every evening, keeps the family’s phone charged, and replaces weekly fuel costs with an affordable rental that her grandparents see as an investment in her future.

Lighting the Way for Learning
Mamie, a dedicated teacher at Rakotobe Joseph Primary School, transformed her home into a nightly study hub after receiving a solar lamp from the Light Library project. The steady, clean light replaced costly batteries and dim torches, letting her prepare lessons comfortably, support her five children’s homework, and watch her students arrive better prepared and more motivated. Her story shows how reliable solar lighting can reduce expenses, protect health, and power real improvements in learning across a whole community.
